July is for Frat Boys

I dislike hot weather...humid, sticky, smelly hot weather. Therefore I declare July a crappy month.

Here's a topic I've been thinking about for some time now.  What constitutes a nerd?

Can nerds and geeks be the same? If you were to define nerd, which famous person would you put as the face of nerd-dom?

Here is the Webster's Dictionary definition of a ...
Nerd:
    1. a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
    2. an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

Geek:
    1. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)
    2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
    3. a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

First of all, who bites the heads of chickens?! If you know someone who wants to do this or has done this before, send me their address. I'll show up with a giant foot trap used for hunting and bite their head off. Bastards.

Secondly, aren't these two definitions practically the same thing?

My co-worker and I have had seriously in-depth conversations about the differences in opinion of what a nerd is. I think I'm attracted to nerds (or geek-chic if you will). She claims I am attracted to normal guys. One thing we both agree on is we aren't attracted to Frat Boys. Well what each of us defines as nerd, geek, frat boy, normal is completely different than the next person.

So I'd like to get come clarity around these terms. I mean can't we at least agree on classifications of a few famous people? I'll throw my ideas out there and you should to. We need to get this under control because it has the potential of exploding big time.
Nerd/Geek: Dwight Schrute, Wil Wheaton, Wes Anderson, Elvlis Costello, Michael Cera
Frat Boy: Vince Vaughn, John StamosBradley Cooper

Normal: George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, John Krasinski

For the record, Nerds/Geeks and Normal boys are acceptable to bring home to mother and father. Frat Boys are only acceptable for the phone room.

  1. Your co-worker is right...you are attracted to normal guys. But I would add they have a dash of frat boy...even if you don't want to admit it! ;)
